Intro/Cover Letter

Dear Hiring Committee,

My name is Nawaf Abulhaija and I am set to graduate in about a month, May 2024, with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering. I have always been fascinated by space exploration due to the limitless possibilities and the direct impact on the future of humankind. Working for a company in the aerospace industry that is on the edge of innovation is the reason I welcome an opportunity to incorporate my knowledge and skills to the team. I am confident in my ability to contribute as a mechanical engineer with my technical knowledge, leadership experience, interpersonal skills, and an undying eagerness to learn.

As a motivated problem solver and diligent learner, I have developed proficiency in the areas of
mechanical design and analysis. During my time working on the Capstone Project, I successfully led a team of 3 mechanical engineering students to design a small-scale and cost-effective remote-controlled garden seeder with plow and sow capabilities. After researching industry solutions and materials, I individually modeled and drafted our design solution while performing FEA analysis on the structure. With the help of my team, we successfully built the device and performed several field tests to validate its rigidity, accuracy, and reliability.

During my internship with Kiewit as a Field Engineer, I led a team of other FEs, using load analysis, built two 120 lbs/ft steel structures, and performed 43,000-ton dual-crane lifts for reactors and mixing tanks. I also helped interpret drawings and specifications for field crews and craft, prepared work plans and work packages, ordered and scheduled material deliveries. In the end, my contribution helped he project save over 30 man-hour per day and helped me gain valuable leadership skills.

As an active leader in my community, I have developed the necessary interpersonal skills to succeed in a dynamic work environment. For community service, I led over 130 youth volunteers for a festival hosting more than 10,000 attendees per day. I was responsible for facilitating monthly meetings and scheduling, as well as planning logistics, safety, and entrance and exit of volunteers and attendees for the days of the festival. I have assisted several food bank organizations, such as the Children’s Relief Fund, in collecting food donations for hungry children all over the globe.

Working at an aerospace company requires the technical, communication, and leadership abilities that I have demonstrated through my experience. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you and can be reached at (832) 715-4102 and nawaf.abulhaija25@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Nawaf Abulhaija
